We started Matra as two brothers who were sick of the same thing most people put up with at the front door: mats that look cheap, slide around, shed everywhere, and quietly drag the whole entrance down.

The original spark came from knotwork. One of us learned knots in scouts, kept tying them for fun, and eventually we made a mat for our own place because nothing we could buy felt right.

Will it slip around?

It is heavy and structured, designed to sit flat and stay put in normal use.

Is it okay outdoors?

Yes, it’s designed for covered entryways.

The mat can live outdoors, but like all natural fibre products, it performs best in sheltered areas.

In fully exposed spots with constant rain, the rope will absorb more moisture, soften, and weather faster as natural oils are washed out.

For the longest life and best look, we recommend placing it under an eave, porch, or doorway with some protection from heavy rain.

How do I clean it?

Shake out regularly. Spot clean when needed. We include a simple care sheet.
